CANDLE BURNING TIPS

CANDLE BURNING TIPS

Candle burning tips to ensure full enjoyment of your candle purchases

Its always important cut your wick ¼ inch before lighting your candle especially on narrow dinner candles to ensure an even burn. If you don’t a large flame often causes the candle to flutter and burn unevenly and could cause a messy burn.

For wide or pillar candles the first time you light the candle burn until the melted wax meets the edge. This is important because wax that has melted on a burn already will melt again more easily. Blowing out your candle on its first burn before it reaches the edge creates a bit of a barrier that remains from there on in.
It is recommended every burn on wide candles should last around three to four hours depending on the width, to keep candles tunnel-free. If you burn your candle for much more, you run the risk of the candle's heat being too high and potentially a candle in a glass overheating where it could crack or shatter.
Breezes, drafts and high traffic areas can cause the flame to burn unevenly. Be sure it’s placed in a spot where the flame won’t flutter and flicker too much and flat surface is essential.
Preventing a candle from tunnelling is the best way to keep it in good condition. However, if you end up with tunnelling, you can use kitchen foil to fix a candle that has started to tunnel. Wrap a foil collar around the candle this creates an almost cocoon effect with a one-inch hole in the center to ensure the flame receives sufficient oxygen to stay lit. Let the candle burn until the wax melts evenly across the surface, reaching the edges. The foil aids in retaining heat, allowing the entire top layer of wax to liquefy.
